DeloPorts and state agencies organize joint work at new border crossing point of Russian Federation in seaport of Novorossiysk

DeloPorts, the stevedoring holding of the Delo Group, and state authorities operating in the port of Novorossiysk started organizing joint work in a new Russian border crossing point.

The cooperation will enhance the coordination processes related to the state control procedures at the boarder crossing, it will lower the risks of potential administrative regimes’ violations and controversial situations. The port infrastructure location will be readjusted accordingly upon necessity.

The new maritime cargo-passenger permanent crossing point at the Russian Federation state border in the seaport of Novorossiysk was approved by Order of the Transport Ministry of Russia on October 17, 2022, № 415. After registration with the Russian Justice Ministry on November 24, 2022, it came into force.

Commenting on the launch of the new border crossing boundaries, Igor Yakovenko, CEO of the DeloPorts, said: “We are grateful to the Transport Ministry of the Russian Federation, especially the executives of the State Policy Department for the State Border Crossing Point Facilities, and to all employees on the field for the tremendous work they have accomplished.

Such basic Orders take a long time to prepare, but they are vital for all the structures working in the port. For DeloPorts it is especially important now after the start of regular vehicle ferry services from Turkey. A clear view of the state' s jurisdictional boundaries will provide the necessary interaction and prevent any undesirable situations from arising”.

Delo Group starts regular auto ferry service with Turkey under a new technological scheme

Delo Group has completed creation of a technological scheme for the reception and expedited processing of cargo arriving in road-trains from Turkey to Novorossiysk. The Group's assets are prepared to start regular vessels-calls both technically and legally.

On November 23, 2022, the Order No. 937 of the Russian Federal Customs Service dated November 17, 2022 "On changing the regions of operation of Novorossiysk customs posts and amending the appendix to Order No. 1067 of the Russian Federal Customs Service dated June 28, 2019" entered into force. It ensured inclusion of the RUSCON-2 (part of Delo Group) storage area for vehicles in the suburbs of Novorossiysk in the Novorossiysk Customs’ region of responsibility.

The area where the temporary storage warehouse is located became a part of a permanent customs control zone. This area will become an integral part of the ferry service together with the NUTEP Container Terminal, a part of the Group’s stevedoring holding DeloPorts. Exploitation of the RUSCON-2 will relieve the load on the port terminal and increase the number of ferries served.

According to the processing scheme, after the arrival of a vessel, the motor vehicles are unloaded at the NUTEP, where the drivers pass through border control, then the trucks with cargo are sealed with electronic navigation seals and go to the RUSCON-2 under remote control of customs authorities. All other types of state control at the state border of the Russian Federation afterwards are carried out there. Vehicles bound for Turkey are processed in the reverse order.

The use of navigation seals developed by the Digital Platforms Development Center LLC is one of the innovative digital solutions, which provide for implementation of this technological scheme. The use of the seals allows the remote control of the road-trains transportation to the RUSCON-2 through Novorossiysk and the inviolability of the cargo until all procedures are completed.

Before this technological solution was introduced, NUTEP regularly received one ferry per week from Turkey with 35 reefers, which were then reloaded to other transport directly at the port. Now, three ferries with a capacity of up to 100 car-trains per week are expected to make regular vessel-calls.

On November 26, 2022, the Barbaros ferry, chartered by Ruscon, is scheduled to make its first regular arrival in Novorossiysk with 60-65 trucks on board.

The project of intensification of the cargo ferry connection between Russia and Turkey was developed and implemented under the supervision of the First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation A.R.Belousov, the Ministry of Transport of Russia together with the interested federal executive bodies, business structures and with active participation of the Russian Export Center. The proposed technological solution will ensure that the project target indicators of 24 hours for processing of one vessel per arrival are reached.

KSK Grain Terminal joined People's Republic of China list of elevators for grain supplies

In October 2022, the KSK Grain Terminal (part of DeloPorts, a stevedoring asset of Delo Group), was included into the list of elevators approved by the People's Republic of China for the grain delivery.

This was announced after the results of the negotiations between Rosselkhoznadzor and the People's Republic of China General Administration of Customs were summarized.

The foreign agency approved a list of Russian companies planning to ship wheat, barley, soybeans, corn, rice, and rapeseed to the PRC. The export of such crops from Russian regions to China became possible after the signing of agreements to protocols on wheat and barley with the Chinese government. DeloPorts acquired new motorized freight carrier within renovation program at KSK Grain Terminal

DeloPorts (a stevedoring asset of Delo Group), received a new motorized freight carrier WRT-1 as part of the equipment renewal program at the KSK Grain Terminal. The purchase agreement was signed in July 2022.

WRT-1 was made in August 2022 in Belgorod, it has a tractive force of up to 10 cars. The main feature of this equipment is the use of Russian-made components. The assembly from Russian details will avoid difficulties with the purchase of spare parts for its maintenance.

Igor Yakovenko, CEO of DeloPorts, commented: “The purchase of the Russian-made motorized freight carrier made of locally produced components is both a planned company technical component update and a step towards our autonomy in the technological issue.

Currently WRT-1 has no competitors with such tractive force among the locomotives produced in the Russian Federation. Thus, we will solve all shunting-related production issues more quickly, saving customers' time and further increasing the throughput capacity of the Terminal ”.

KSK set new daily record for grain handling

On August 18, 2022, KSK Grain Terminal (part of DeloPorts, the stevedore asset of Delo Group), set a new daily record for grain handling, exceeding the previous record by almost 1,000 tons.

In November 2021, the daily handling record was set at 36,214 tons; on August 18, 2022, it reached 37,180 tons.

These results were achieved mainly due to the improvements in operational efficiency. Now the loading process is managed by 2 operators simultaneously, dividing the unloading from the railroad and loading onto the vessels. This solution reduces the possibility of errors and emergency stops.

A number of improvements such as an increase in the frequency of loading machine movement from hold to hold, the switching of flows from various silos, steady filling of holds, and active flattening of cargo have increased the speed of loading grain into vessels.

Alexander Trukhanovich, the CEO of KSK Grain Terminal, commented on the achievement: We are pleased to note that our investment development strategy is paying off.

Thanks to the operational processes’ optimization, we are ready to responsively implement loading and unloading operations and provide our customers with high-class services.

The Group will continue its consistent work aimed at improving the service quality in all segments of its business.

NUTEP container terminal proceeds with transition to domestic software

NUTEP container terminal (part of DeloPorts, the stevedoring asset of the Delo Group), in difficult foreign-policy and economic situation carries out activities to improve a number of adaptive solutions on the basis of software developed by domestic partner companies. The aim of this process is the reduction of the critical dependence on foreign technology.

One of the key factors is the improvement and refinement of russified functional workstations (radio terminals) on the Android platform for portable pads of personnel on the berth, road and railway freight handling fronts. This software is used by RTG operators, stackers, tallymen and other employees for whose primary and particularly important function is the continuous monitoring of production processes. The requests of users were considered as carefully as possible during the development of this software.

In view of reducing the time for customs control of the containers, a program was developed and implemented and allowed to change the technology of their pre-weighing. The entire procedure used to be carried out manually by a customs inspector. Everything is now done digitally and automatically, including filing, recording contravention, locking/unlocking containers and fixing equipment weight.

Options have been finalized and put into operation so the terminal customers can receive a weighing report from the web portal without having to contact representatives of the vessel's line services.

In addition, line agents can automatically receive digital information about work at NUTEP container terminal berths based on decisions made about moorings - the outlook for berthing, the order and duration of work with vessels, and compliance with berth windows. Solutions have been implemented for border control officers to automatically notify the terminal's customers of the decision on containerized cargo in terms of identifying risks and subsequent referrals for inspection.

Commenting on the development and implementation of the software, Yury Matvienko, the CEO of NUTEP container terminal, said: “On the one hand, we have been following the course of digitalization of all production processes for a very long time. This is not just a trend, but an immediate necessity. Automation of procedures and their digitization allows not only speeding up the processing of cargo traffic, but also avoiding problems of the human factor. On the other hand, in the current difficult conditions it is very important to develop and improve own solutions on the basis of software developed by domestic companies. This will be a guarantee of independence from foreign providers, helping to avoid failures, malfunctions and blockages of critical equipment. In that way, we will still provide a safe, responsive and high-quality service to our customers.”

DeloPorts is breaking records of grain loading

On July 17, a SABAEK vessel with loading capacity of more than 100 thousand tons was received for loading at the grain terminal of KSK (part of DeloPorts). This volume of loading breaks the previous record (Norah vessel took 95,800 thousand tons for loading in January).

DeloPorts is one of the largest stevedore assets in the South of Russia, uniting assets of Delo Group in grain and container segments in Novorossiysk port.

The vessel was loaded on the deep-water berth 40A, which was put into operation a year ago. The loading passed in a normal operating condition. The Agroindustrial Corporation ACT Company M, one of the key customers of KSK and one of the largest grain exporters in Russia, acts as a consignor. After loading SABAEK went to Iran.

Igor Yakovenko, the CEO of DeloPorts, said: “We see that the investment project of KSK deep-water grain berth launching, implemented by Delo Group, justifies the investment. We are committed to providing the best possible experience for our customers. KSK completed grain season with new record thanks to investments in port infrastructure

KSK Grain Terminal (part of DeloPorts, a stevedoring asset of Delo Group (the Group)), handled 5 million 252 thousand tons of grain in the grain season 2021/2022 (June-July), exceeding the season 2020/2021 figures by 56 thousand tons.

The main component of this success is the operation of a new deep-water grain berth No. 40A. On July 20, 2022, the Company celebrated a one-year anniversary of the launch of the deepest grain berth on the Black Sea at KSK.

During its operation, a gross tonnage of vessels handled at KSK has increased from 22.6 thousand tons per day in the season 2020/2021 to 24.5 thousand in the season 2021/2022. The transshipment directly via the berth has exceeded 3 million tons. After putting in operation the berth 40A, KSK set several records and some of them unique.

For example, in January 2022, the first in history of Novorossiysk, NORAH grain carrier with a cargo capacity of 120,000 tons was loaded at this berth.  The vessel took on 95,800 tons of cargo, exceeding the previous record for a single grain shipment by more than 23,000 tons. In addition, in March 2022 KSK handled 27 vessels at berths 40 and 40A, breaking the previous record by 5 units.

Roman Antipov, the Technical Director of DeloPorts highlighted: “The berth 40A was put into operation a year ago. It is the only deep-water berth for Russian grain loading onto vessels with deadweight up to 100 thousand tons. Such projects as these increase transshipment capacity in the Azov-Black Sea basin”.

Igor Yakovenko, the CEO of DeloPorts, outlined: “Now Novorossiysk has a well-developed port infrastructure that provides cargo transportation at the highest world level. Implementation of such large-scale projects is part of the Russian transport infrastructure development. By launching the berth 40A, Delo Group opened new promising markets for Russian grain in Southeast Asia and the Middle East”.

On Thursday, April 7, just two days before the start of the Russian Cup in Krasnodar the Women`s Handball Club ‟CSKA” visited DeloPorts (part of Delo Group) terminals. Men`s and women`s ‟CSKA” Clubs are closely associated with the Group, which is the general sponsor of not only these Clubs, but also of Handball Club ‟Kuban”, so employees of the Group are devoted handball fans.

The team came to Krasnodar region to participate in OLIMPBET Final4 of the Russian Women's Handball Cup – 2021-2022. The Cup will be held in Krasnodar on April 9-10. The best teams of Russian Cup - ‟CSKA”, ‟Rostov-Don”, ‟Kuban” and ‟Zvezda” will take part in the competition.

The CEO of DeloPorts Igor Yakovenko told the team about how the holding had become a leader in the market, about investment projects which the Group had implemented in last 7 years: construction of unique deep-water container and grain berths for ocean-type vessels, purchase of own modern tugboats that are an important part of the uninterrupted work of terminals.

Igor Yakovenko, in a dialogue with the handball players, noted: ‟These days DeloPorts is one of the most advanced divisions of the Group and the most advanced in southern Russia. KSK terminal broke several records in March

In March 2022, the KSK grain terminal, part of DeloPorts, the stevedoring asset of Delo Group, broke several records related to the transshipment of grain cargo through its capacities.

Compared to the March record of a last year, the increase in cargo turnover at the terminal in March this year amounted to 47%, almost 500 thousand tons were transshipped, the increase - more than 266 thousand tons. This achievement is the result of a whole list of record indicators in some areas of KSK operations.

Specifically, during the twelve-hour shift on March 27-28 this year 112 carriages with grain were unloaded – it is 5 carriages more than the previous record set in 2021. During the same shift on March 30-31 this year 410 cars passed through the laboratory acceptance and cargo quality control (sighting) (the previous record of last year - 383 cars).

Thus, for a month, almost 3.5 times was broken in terms of received for unloading of grain trucks – more than 12 thousand against 3.5 thousand in March last year. Accordingly, the volume of grain cargo delivered has increased, 324 thousand tons and 91.4 thousand tons respectively.

In March this year terminal accepted a record 27 grain carriers for handling, 25 of them were loaded and discharged this month, two more are about to finish loading.

Commenting the achievement, Alexander Trukhanovich, CEO of KSK, said: “On the one hand, the current difficult geopolitical situation has changed the grain supply logistics chain in the South of Russia and shifted a part of the additional cargo flow to our terminal.

But we took this increase easily - the capacity of the terminal is designed for such large loads or even more. On the other hand, our work team, as it usually happens in difficult time, mobilized, and demonstrated their best qualities - cohesion and professionalism. First of all, March records in all areas of activity are its merit, as well as indicators of sufficient capacity reserve and excellent condition of KSK industrial equipment”.

DeloPorts started using wind power since the new year

Since January 2022 DeloPorts, a stevedoring asset of the Delo Group (the Group), within the framework of the “Green Port” project began using the electricity generated at wind farms on the KSK and NUTEP terminals.
In April 2021 the corresponding agreement was signed between the parent company of the Group, the Delo Management Company and Atomenergoprom, which consolidates the civil assets of Rosatom. The immediate provider of the green electricity is Atomenergopromsbyt (part of NovaWind - the wind energy division of Rosatom State Corporation). KSK and NUTEP became the first large port infrastructure facilities in Russia to announce the transition to the use of renewable energy. The annual throughput of NUTEP Container Terminal is 700 thousand TEUs, KSK Grain Terminal – up to 7 million tons. According to NovaWind, the potential annual reduction in CO2 emissions due to the transition to the use of wind energy at NUTEP and KSK can reach 6.8 and 5.7 thousand tons of CO2 respectively (compared to traditional sources of electrical energy on natural gas). «On January 1, 2022, our terminals switched to using electricity generated from wind. The continued development of the “Green Port” project is especially important considering our further plans for modernization of our terminals - their efficiency will increase and the burden on the environment will decrease. This approach complies with the ESG guidelines implemented today by the Delo Group. We are grateful to our partners at Rosatom State Corporation for their help and assistance in this environmental project”, - Igor Yakovenko, the CEO of DeloPorts commented on the start of green energy supply. “Rosatom is consistently implementing a strategy to produce low-carbon energy based on nuclear and wind generation. NovaWind facilitates reducing the carbon footprint in the Russian energy sector and provides partners with additional tools to achieve sustainable development goals. So I hope that this year even more companies will choose a transition to reducing their carbon footprint in the production of goods and services using electricity generated from renewable energy sources», - said Grigoriy Nazarov, Deputy General Director for Development and International Business of NovaWind JSC.
